about

Pebbles Rocks & Boulders was recorded at Old Soul Studio in Catskill, NY under the direction of owner, producer, and musician, Kenny Siegal. The recording session was a reunion of sorts, as Kenny, Brian Geltner (the drummer), and I are old friends. 20+ years ago, it was the two of them, who after hearing some of my piano demos, dragged me into Kenny's former, make-shift studio (the basement, laundry room at his parent's house). They wanted me to record a few songs on piano, and after much coaxing, even had me sing a few. I squeaked out one take per song, and remember feeling like my beet-red cheeks might explode. A few weeks later, after adding their own musical layers, they handed me a cassette tape with the finished versions. "You mean my little plinka-planka tunes could be real songs?" I was shocked. They said something like... "Keep writing songs, Diane... Don't ever stop." Shrugging my shoulders, I said OK.

Even though decades have gone by, I've never forgotten it was their encouragement and faith that made my musical wheels kick into high gear, and I'm ever so grateful, because expressing myself through songwriting has been an integral part of my life ever since. I've had to walk through a few dark tunnels the past few years, and songwriting has helped me through. Evolution isn't easy, but to me, it's the whole point of why we're here. There are ways to avoid it, and at certain points, most of us try (after all...pain is painful!). But at the end of the day, it is what it is whether or not we admit it, whether or not we like it, whether or not we have the courage to embrace it. Of course, this album is personal to me, but I share it with you knowing we're all human, and figuring someone out there besides my schnauzers might want to hear it ("OMG she's playing that one again, let's go find a pair of dirty socks to chew on").

The 11 songs selected for this album came from a group written over the past 18 months. Instrumentation includes piano, guitar, bass, drums, pedal steel, violin, viola, cello, clarinet, various organs, and percussion.

The digital download is $12. For those who prefer a physical copy of the CD with art and lyrics, and/or like the idea of supporting the efforts of an independent artist like myself (this was a HUGE endeavor for me!), a small batch have been printed and are available at $25. Anyone who buys a hard copy is also welcome to copies of any or all of my previous recordings at no additional cost. Just send a note indicating which ones you'd like (Before Cowboys, The History, The Fool, Unadorned).

Logistically speaking, it's been difficult for me to find a way to perform live with any consistency. However, I anticipate one show this Spring in the Upstate, NY area (details TBD). I know some who would want to be there won't be able to make it, as life is busy, and Utica is a trek for most. That said, I will find a venue that will have me, musicians to support me, and I'll sing my heart out whether anyone's in the room or not =)

As always, thanks so much for your support!
